Kcalmo Privacy Policy

Last updated: 1 October 2026

This is a translation of the Dutch privacy policy. If the two differ, the Dutch version applies.

In short

The rest of this document explains exactly what happens.

1. Who is responsible

Kcalmo is provided by Luuk de Vries Reilingh, who can be reached at info@kcalmo.com.

Questions about your data go to that email address. We reply within 30 days, as the GDPR requires. If you need a postal address — for a formal letter, or a complaint to the Dutch Data Protection Authority — ask for it at the same address and we will send it to you.

2. What data we process, and why

2.1 Without an account

If you use Kcalmo without signing in, everything stays in the app on your phone: your diary, your goals and your settings. We cannot access it.

What does leave your phone:

Data Where to Why
The text of what you said our server, and from there a language model to turn it into separate foods with calories
A search term or barcode our server to look up the product

No identifier is sent along that would let us link these requests to a person.

To prevent abuse, we do count how often voice logging is used from the same internet address. We don't store the address itself for this, only an encrypted value derived from it. That counter disappears after at most eight days. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping voice logging affordable and available.

2.2 With an account

If you create an account, we also store:

Data Legal basis Retention
Your email address performance of the contract until you delete your account
Your diary (what you ate, and when) performance of the contract until you delete your account
Your profile: date of birth, sex, height, activity level, goal performance of the contract until you delete your account
Your weight entries performance of the contract until you delete your account
The text of your voice input performance of the contract 90 days, then deleted automatically
How often you use voice logging and what it costs, for the fair-use limit legitimate interest: preventing abuse 8 days, then deleted automatically

Some of this is health data within the meaning of Article 9 GDPR: your weight, your food diary and the text of what you say. We process it on the basis of your explicit consent, which you give by using the app for the purpose it exists for, and which you can withdraw at any time by deleting your account.

2.3 Apple Health

This connection is off by default. If you turn it on, we:

This data never goes to analytics or to a third party. You can withdraw permission in the Health app on your phone; the switches in Kcalmo stop what Kcalmo does.

2.4 Your subscription

Kcalmo works for free: searching, scanning barcodes and logging by hand cost nothing, with the full food database. Voice logging and the extras — widgets, the Lock Screen, Siri, Progress and the Health connection — come with a subscription.

There are no advertisements — not switched off, but not present at all: the advertising software is not in the app.

Payment is handled entirely by Apple. We don't see your payment details, and we don't receive a card number, address or name. Apple only tells us whether your subscription is active.

To keep track of that we use RevenueCat (RevenueCat Inc.). It receives exactly one thing from us: your Kcalmo account number. That is needed because otherwise your subscription would be tied to one phone and disappear when you switch devices.

What RevenueCat does not get from us: your weight, your goals, your BMI, your age, your sex, what you ate, or anything derived from it. No attribute at all is sent. That is not a promise but a property of the code: the subscription module cannot even reach the health data, and this is checked automatically with every change.

You cancel with Apple, via Settings → Subscription → Manage in the App Store. Even without a subscription you can always sign out, download your data and delete your account.

2.5 Analytics and error reports

Kcalmo collects no analytics and sends no error reports to anyone else. There is no software for it in the app.

If you have chosen on your iPhone to share analytics with app developers, Apple sends us a crash report when the app crashes. It does not say who you are or what you ate. You can turn this off in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

3. Who we share data with

Party For Where
Supabase storing your account and your diary Frankfurt, Germany (EU)
Anthropic turning your spoken text into foods EU/US, with a data processing agreement
Apple the payment of your subscription we only learn whether it is active
RevenueCat keeping track of whether your subscription is active US, with a data processing agreement
Resend sending your sign-in code by email EU/US, with a data processing agreement
Open Food Facts product data (we fetch it; they receive nothing about you) —

A data processing agreement is in place with Supabase, Anthropic, RevenueCat and Resend: they process data only on our instructions.

Apple is listed separately because Apple is not our processor. Apple sells the subscription to you and is responsible for that itself; we only learn whether it is running. What Apple does with your payment details is described in Apple's privacy policy.

Your health data — your weight, what you eat, your goals — never goes to any of these parties, and not to analytics.

We do not sell your data and do not use it for purposes other than those described above.

4. Your rights

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection. Two of these are built into the app:

For the other rights: email info@kcalmo.com.

You can also file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).

5. Security

All traffic is encrypted. Access to your data is restricted per user at the database level: even we cannot query another user's rows without explicitly bypassing that restriction, which is logged.

6. Children

Kcalmo is not intended for children under 16. The app refuses to calculate a weight-loss goal for anyone under 18.

7. Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will announce it in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.

8. Not medical advice

Kcalmo gives estimates based on formulas and a food database. That is not medical advice and not a diagnosis. If you have doubts about your diet or your weight, consult your GP or a dietitian.
